Dispensary conversion rate optimization

Conversion Rate Optimization (CRO) is a specialized art form, and at Dispenza, we excel in designing the easiest path for new customers to try your business. Our expertise in CRO is evident in our track record of success, including achieving a remarkable 53% conversion rate on Dutchie for NuLeaf Nevada, surpassing thousands of other dispensaries using the same platform.

With Dispenza, you can trust that our strategies are based on industry best practices and proven results. We eliminate guesswork and provide you with data-driven solutions.

The optimized conversion pathway: user journey optimization, A/B testing strategy and revenue lift maximization

At Dispenza, our commitment to optimizing conversion rates goes beyond initial website development. We believe in continuous improvement and regularly enhance our clients' websites every 90 days. Through thorough analysis of data points, we identify areas where users may face barriers in completing transactions or visiting your physical location. Armed with this valuable information, we make data-driven decisions to improve your website's performance and maximize conversion rates.

Our success in CRO is evident in the outstanding performance of our clients. In 2021 alone, we have achieved the highest conversion rates among all customers using the Dutchie service. On average, over 22% of users who browse our clients' inventory end up converting into customers, demonstrating the effectiveness of our strategies in driving engagement and conversions.

Where a dispensary website conversion rate leaks

You earn a visit two ways. You rank for it in the local pack, or you pay for it through a marketplace listing. Either way the visit has a price. New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. That is what every lost visit costs before you count the basket.

Then the visit hits the site and one of these happens:

  • The menu loads in a second frame, the visitor waits, and some leave before the first product renders.
  • A product page shows a price and a THC number but no “Add to cart” above the fold on a phone.
  • The checkout asks for an account before it asks for the order.
  • There is no “Get directions” or “Call” button visible on mobile, so the walk-in never happens.
  • Deals live on a page nobody reaches from the menu.

None of these show up in a rank report. All of them show up in a dispensary website conversion rate. CRO is the work of finding each one, fixing it, and measuring what changed.

Three outcomes cannabis CRO is measured against

Cannabis CRO at Dispenza serves one job: rank in the top 3 locally and turn the menu traffic that follows into orders, calls and visits. Three pillars.

More orders from the same traffic:

Same sessions, more menu starts, more carts that finish. We measure menu starts, product views per session, cart starts and completed pickup or delivery orders, then change the step where the drop is largest.

More calls and direction requests:

For a dispensary the local KPIs are calls and direction requests, read from your Google Business Profile and your site. A visitor who taps “Get directions” is a walk-in you can count. We treat those two buttons as conversions and place them accordingly.

A 90-day cadence, not a one-off audit:

An audit is a document. A cadence is a habit. Every 90 days your SGEN site gets a review, a set of changes and a before-and-after on the numbers above. Traffic changes with the season and the competition, so the site has to keep moving too.

What we change, and the KPI each change moves

Five areas. Each names the number it is meant to move, in the currency Dispenza reports: Share of Local Voice, direction requests, calls and orders.

Menu flow and product page structure:

Menu conversion optimization starts at the first screen after the menu opens: category order, filter defaults, sort order and how fast the first product renders. On product pages we set the order of price, size, potency and “Add to cart”, and we keep the cart visible on a phone. KPI: menu starts → product views → cart starts.

Checkout and pickup path:

Guest checkout first, account second. Pickup and delivery choice at the top, not the bottom. Order-ready time stated before the last step. Fewer fields, fewer surprises. KPI: cart starts → completed orders.

Call and directions CTAs on mobile:

A fixed bottom bar on phones: Call, Directions, Order. The same buttons on every location page and every product page. Numbers and addresses match your Google Business Profile so the tap works first time. KPI: calls and direction requests per session.

Speed budget per template:

Each SGEN template on your site carries a speed budget: home, location, menu category, product, deals. Images, fonts and third-party scripts are measured against it every 90 days. A budget is a number you can hold a page to; “fast” is not. KPI: the share of sessions that reach the first product view.

Deals and specials placement:

Deals belong where the visitor already is: a strip in the menu, a slot on the product page and a banner on the location page, not a separate page. Placement changes are tested against order count, not against click count on the banner. KPI: orders that include a deal item.

Proof, page-bound

Conversion-rate percentages on this page would be a guess, so there are none. What we can show is a named client, with the figures exactly as they appear on that client’s case page:

+907% SEARCH IMPRESSIONS — FIREHOUSE 365 CASE STUDY

More visits and more impressions are the input side. The menu-funnel report is where the order side is read. The report that ships with every CRO cycle carries the same columns for your store.

Both figures are printed on the Firehouse 365 dispensary case study page.

What the 90-day cadence replaces

  • A separate CRO consultant. The people changing your site are the people who built it. There is no hand-off document and no second invoice for the change.
  • A heat-map SaaS you pay for and nobody reads. Session recordings and click maps are part of the review, and the review ends in a shipped change.
  • The “buy more marketplace traffic” reflex. When orders fall, the first move is usually to spend more on a listing. CRO asks the cheaper question first: what happened to the visits you already had.

Dispenza does not sell marketplace ad-buying. CRO is included in the 90-day enhancement cycle on every SGEN site we run, and it ships inside the website module of both plans.

Frequently asked questions

What do you change every 90 days?

Each cycle starts with a read of your menu funnel, your call and directions taps, and your template speed. We pick the largest drop, ship a fix for it on your SGEN site, and record the before-and-after. Typical changes are a menu category reorder, a checkout step removed, a mobile bottom bar added, or a deals strip moved into the menu. Nothing is redesigned; things are moved, cut or sped up.

Which numbers do you report?

Menu starts, product views per session, cart starts, completed orders, calls and direction requests, plus the speed figures per template. Local visibility is reported as Share of Local Voice for “Dispensary Near Me”. Each number carries its window and its source, whether that is your site analytics or your Google Business Profile insights. Third-party figures we quote carry the source and date.

Does CRO work with our menu provider?

Yes, when the menu is connected to your SGEN site rather than framed inside it. That connection is what lets us see product views and cart starts as your own data. We work with the common dispensary menu and POS providers; if your menu is currently framed, the first cycle usually starts with the menu integration so there is something to measure.

Is CRO included or an add-on?

Included. The 90-day enhancement cadence is part of the website module, WEB Plus or WEB Pro, inside both plans. There is no separate CRO retainer and no per-change fee. Pricing is scoped to your locations, and every module in both plans is listed in full on the pricing page.
