The Arkansas fight, by the numbers: 38 doors, 119,074 cards

Nobody in Arkansas makes a cannabis patient. A physician certifies her, the state issues the card, and she picks one of the doors already open, so the sale you win this month is a sale another dispensary lost. Here is the size of that fight, and our move on each figure.

Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.

The 40-license cap, the 38 operating dispensaries, the $140.3 million first-half figure and the per-dispensary sales shares are as reported in trade coverage of the Arkansas market, read on 9 September 2026; the 119,074 active patient cards are the Arkansas Department of Health's July 2026 count; population is the US Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 estimate. Dispensary licensing sits with the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Commission and enforcement with the Arkansas Alcoholic Beverage Control Division. No county or city dispensary count or population figure appears here, because neither has been verified against a published source.

38 doors open, under a ceiling of 40.

Arkansas caps dispensary licenses at 40 and 38 are trading, allocated across eight geographic zones, so no zone grows out of the fight. Your rival list is all but closed: two licenses of headroom and no more, so the shop that takes a patient off you today is the shop taking one next year. She moves for one reason: she looked, and somebody else came up first. Putting your pin in that three, for an agreed keyword set and radius, is what we guarantee.

More cards in wallets, fewer dollars over the counter.

Active patient cards reached 119,074 in July 2026, up 7.7% on a year earlier, while first-half sales came in at $140.3 million, down 2.6% on the same months of 2025. More cards, less money: any store that grew did it by taking somebody else's share. You take share the way it gets taken from you, by being the one she finds first, and the local pack, your site and your menu pages are where we do it.

Two doors take a sixth of the state.

Per-dispensary sales-share reporting puts a Sherwood store at 8.55% of everything the state sold and a Hot Springs store at 8.02%: two of the 38 doors, just under a sixth of the till. Neither share was bought with advertising; it was built on being the obvious choice in its own town, and every point of it came off the other thirty-six. A top-three pin, an owned keyword set and a monthly rank grid across your radius are how we take it back.

Why a dispensary marketing agency should own the stack

Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.

Arkansas has 38 dispensaries trading under a statutory ceiling of 40, allocated across eight geographic zones, so the most this state can ever add is two more doors, which leaves exactly one thing moving in this market: which of the doors already open a patient walks into, and paying four separate vendors to fight over that is the expensive way to fight.

You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.

Your stack is rented from four vendors.

A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.

Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.

The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.

Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.

A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.

Four invoices, four account managers.

Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.

What is included

Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.

Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.

The number we manage to

New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.

Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.

What we run for one Arkansas dispensary, and for several

Every service we sell is the same in every market; what changes is the scope, and in Arkansas the scope is never the state line. Your keyword set, your radius and the rank grid we report on are drawn around the trade area your patients actually travel from, and the top-three guarantee is written to that scope and no wider.

No delivery block appears here, because no Arkansas delivery figure is published that we would put our name to. If you deliver to patients, bring that side of the operation to the demo call and we scope the service-area grid to it there.

If you run one dispensary.

One address is one map fight, and because the door count is fixed by statute it is the same handful of rivals every month, which is the good news: the field does not refresh, so a position you take tends to stay taken. You get your own keyword set, your own Google Business Profile, your own citation set and a rank grid across the radius your patients travel, with Share of Local Voice for "Dispensary Near Me" reported point by point every month. We lead that report with the number that decides your week, which is whether you hold the three slots inside your own radius, rather than a statewide average nobody can act on. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.

If you run more than one.

Arkansas allocates its dispensary licenses across eight geographic zones, and the map splits the same way: a patient searching in Little Rock and one searching in Hot Springs are shown different pins. So we mirror that shape for you, with one SGEN domain and a location selector, a page and a Google Business Profile per address, a citation set per address, and a roll-up report carrying a row for every location, so the one gaining share and the one quietly losing it are never averaged into a single line. We write the offer the same way, per address and per keyword set, never as one number for the group. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.

The guides, read for an Arkansas store inside a capped market

Your fight is a town fight, not a state one. Arkansas allocates its dispensary licenses across eight geographic zones, and the patient deciding tonight is choosing between the doors she can reach, not the thirty-eight trading statewide, so each town is its own map with three slots and its own short list of rivals. These six guides answer what that costs you and what we do about it, each hung on one Arkansas fact, and the offer stays the same throughout: top three in the local pack, written to an agreed keyword set and radius, guaranteed.

Thirty-eight doors, and only one of them gets the tap

With the door count fixed, the only variable left in Arkansas is which dispensary a patient sees first, and local search settles that in a fixed order: the profile, then the pages built around what she actually types, then the citations that make both credible, then the links. Run those out of order and you spend a year paying for work that cannot land yet. We run them in order for your store and report each step as it lands, and the whole method is set out if you want it before the call. See the guide: the dispensary SEO guide.

Three slots that no license ceiling can widen

Arkansas will not hand out a forty-first dispensary license, so your rival list barely moves. The local pack does not move either: three results, whoever is trading. That makes the profile behind those three the one piece of shelf space nobody can subdivide, and it is won on categories, hours, product data, photos, questions, posts and the review replies most owners never get round to. Your profile is ours to run and to report on point by point, and the position it wins is what our top-three guarantee is written to, for an agreed keyword set and radius. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.

The one market around here where paid media is open to you

Arkansas lets you place television, radio, print and internet advertising where no more than 30% of the audience is expected to be under 18, permits billboards subject to local zoning, and puts four mandatory warnings on every asset plus a 1,000-foot exclusion around schools and daycare centers. Read as rules that is a list of hurdles; read as a buying spec it tells you what you can place before you spend a dollar finding out. It also tells you where the surest money goes, which is the map, your own site and the patients already on your list, and those are the surfaces we run for you on one contract. See the guide: dispensary advertising rules by state.

119,074 cards, and every one of them renews

Arkansas patients are card-holders, not passers-by: 119,074 of them were active in July 2026, each certified, each renewing, each perfectly capable of remembering who looked after her last time. That is a far smaller pool than the state's 3.09 million residents suggests, and a far more valuable one, because a patient who comes back every month is worth more than a stranger who never comes back at all. Points, tiers, an email list and an SMS list wired into your point of sale are the one asset a rival cannot rank away from you, because it is a relationship rather than a position. That retention layer is what separates our two plans. See the guide: the dispensary loyalty program guide.

Four invoices in a half-year that shrank

Arkansas dispensaries took $140.3 million in the first six months of the year, down 2.6% on the same period before it, and a shrinking till is exactly when the flat cost of renting your stack starts to bite: a listing site, a menu tool, a texting platform and an agency retainer each bill you the same whether sales rise or fall, and none of the four talks to the others. What each rented piece actually costs, from dated third-party sources, is set out in full. Both of our plans put the site, the ranking work and the reporting on one contract, with the build included and no separate build fee. See the guide: what dispensary marketing costs.

Budgeting for share when the category is not carrying you

Growth spend assumes the category lifts everyone; share spend assumes it will not, and here it will not, because the card count rose 7.7% last year while sales fell, which means the average patient is spending less than she was. So the plan that pays is unglamorous: local search first, the site and the menu second, retention third, and one report a month that says what ran and what it returned. Both of our plans carry those on a single contract, and we sequence them for your store rather than handing you a checklist and wishing you luck. See the guide: the dispensary marketing guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee rankings?

A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.

Which platform are the sites built on?

Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.

What does it cost?

Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.

Arkansas is medical only, with 38 dispensaries. Is there really a fight here?

There is a fixed one, which is harder on whoever loses it. 119,074 active cards were counted in July 2026, and not one of those patients was created by marketing: a physician certified her, and then she picked a door. The ceiling is forty licenses with thirty-eight trading, so at most two more doors will ever open, and nobody markets a patient into existence: every point of share you gain is a point somebody else gave up, and the cheapest place to take it is the local pack, because three results are what a phone shows first. That is the work we sell, and the top-three guarantee covers it for an agreed keyword set, radius and window.

Paid media is allowed here. Should we be buying billboards instead?

Buy them if the numbers work; Arkansas is unusual in this region for letting you, subject to local zoning, a 30% under-18 audience limit and four warnings on every asset. What a billboard cannot do is reach a patient at the moment she is choosing, which is when she opens her phone and taps one of three results. So we would rather spend your first quarter on the map, your site and your list, then judge outdoor against what those returned. Billboards are not among our twelve services; the twelve are what we run, report on and answer for.

Our zone already has its dispensaries. Where does growth come from?

From the doors that are already open, and from nowhere else. Arkansas allocates dispensary licenses across eight geographic zones and will not issue past its statutory ceiling, so your competitive set is effectively closed: the same rivals, month after month, dividing the same certified list of patients. That is a hard market to grow in and an easy one to hold a position in, because the rank you win is not being reset by a wave of new arrivals. We take that position with profile work, on-page work and citations, then report your Share of Local Voice point by point across your radius so you can watch it hold.

How would we know the work is landing?

Every month you get a rank grid rather than a rank: Share of Local Voice for the phrases we agreed, measured at points spread across your radius, so a slip on one side of town shows up instead of hiding inside an average. Beside it sit calls, direction requests and the orders that started on your site. The keyword set, the radius and the window go into the agreement before any work begins, and the offer on that agreed set is top three in the local pack. Terms apply, and we go through them with you on the demo call.

What makes you different from a general agency in Little Rock?

We work with dispensaries and nothing else, and we own the platform your site runs on, so the team hosting it is the team ranking it: one contract instead of four vendors pointing at each other the week your menu breaks. In a state where your rival list is fixed and your patients are certified, that matters more than it would elsewhere, because everything compounds on surfaces you own. The ranking work carries a written top-three local ranking guarantee, scoped to an agreed keyword set, radius and window. Terms apply.
