The Mississippi fight, with no advertising to buy: 175 doors

Nobody in Mississippi is making new cannabis buyers. The state certifies a patient before she may shop, and no dispensary here may advertise to reach her, so the sale you win this month is one a rival lost. Here is that fight, and our move on each number.

Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.

The patient and dispensary counts are the state figures for February 2026 and the $158,763,559 total is fiscal year 2026, 1 July 2025 to 30 June 2026, both from state data reported in the trade press and read on 9 September 2026; dispensary licensing sits with the Mississippi Department of Revenue, Alcoholic Beverage Control Division, whose dispensary opt-out map, dated 1 April 2024, is the source for the 80 opted-out municipalities and 17 counties. Population is the US Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 estimate. The advertising position is the Mississippi State Department of Health rule as recorded in the litigation over it, Cocroft v. Graham, which the US Supreme Court declined to hear; the operative rule text has not been read here, and no county or city dispensary count appears, because none is published in the record read on that date.

About 175 doors, one fixed list.

Roughly 67,944 people held an active patient card in February 2026, and about 175 dispensaries were open to serve them out of 2,943,045 residents, so the only pool that may lawfully buy from you is that card list. Your next sale comes off a rival's till the moment a cardholder searches and taps one of the three doors the map shows first. Putting your pin in that three, for an agreed keyword set and radius, is what we guarantee.

The one market where attention is not for sale.

The Mississippi State Department of Health has barred dispensary advertising and marketing in any media; signs on your own property and the products on your own website are what it leaves you. So the buyer who does not already know your name reaches you through search, your Google Business Profile or your own site, or not at all. Those three surfaces are what we build, rank and report on for you, on one contract rather than four.

No ceiling on doors, and a map drawn around the searcher.

The state sets no limit on how many dispensary licenses it issues, and 80 municipalities and 17 counties are recorded as opted out on the Department of Revenue's map dated 1 April 2024. So the number of rivals in your catchment can change quickly, and the three pins a shopper is shown are drawn around where she stands, not around your county line. Which door she sees first is what we sell you: your keyword set, your rank grid, your monthly report, with the guarantee written to that grid.

Why a dispensary marketing agency should own the stack

Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.

About 175 dispensaries in Mississippi are dividing roughly 67,944 active patients and the $158,763,559 those counters took in fiscal year 2026, with no advertising anyone may buy and no ceiling on how many more doors open, so the only surfaces that can move your share are the ones you own, and renting four of them from four vendors is the expensive way to fight for it.

You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.

Your stack is rented from four vendors.

A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.

Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.

The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.

Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.

A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.

Four invoices, four account managers.

Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.

What is included

Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.

Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.

The number we manage to

New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.

Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.

+45.59% 6mo INCREASE IN SOLV FOR "DISPENSARY NEAR ME"
Local search rank grid, before and after: red rank 20 plus pins on the left, green rank 1 pins on the right.

What we actually run for a Mississippi dispensary

The twelve services above are the same in every market; what changes for your store is the scope, and in Mississippi it is never the state. With no media to buy here, everything we run for you is owned or earned, your site, your profile, the search that feeds them and the report that scores them, and it is scoped to the catchment your buyers travel from, with the top-three guarantee written to that same keyword set and radius.

If you also deliver, bring that side of the operation to the demo call and we scope the service-area grid to the radius you actually serve, not to a statewide figure.

If you run one dispensary.

Part of your catchment is people who cannot buy where they live: someone inside one of Mississippi's opted-out towns who wants a lawful counter searches for the nearest one that is open, which can be yours. That search is won with one keyword set, one Google Business Profile, one rank grid across the radius your buyers travel from, and Share of Local Voice for "Dispensary Near Me" reported point by point every month. In a market where you cannot buy attention, holding that rank is the only growth on the table, and our report shows it to you rather than averaging it away. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.

If you run several.

No ceiling on licenses means a rival can open a second door in your town while another of your locations trades beside a county that has closed itself off, so your addresses are not one market and should never be reported as one. We run one SGEN domain with a location selector, a page, a Google Business Profile and a citation set per address, and a roll-up report with a row for each of your doors, so the one holding its rank and the one quietly losing it never disappear into the same average. The guarantee is written the same way: per location, per keyword set, per radius. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.

The method, read for a Mississippi dispensary that cannot advertise

Your fight is a catchment fight, not a state one: 80 municipalities and 17 counties sit opted out on the Department of Revenue's map dated 1 April 2024, and any one of them can be put back in play by petition, because 1,500 signatures or 20% of the electorate, whichever is less, forces a special election inside 60 days. So the doors your buyers may lawfully reach are redrawn without notice, and each of these six takes one guide's method and hangs it on a Mississippi fact that moves your till. The offer stays what it is throughout: top three, written to an agreed keyword set and radius, guaranteed. The link at the end of each is there if you want the working before the call.

The ban is a buying spec, not a warning

Mississippi runs the most restrictive advertising regime in the country, and it is not a difference of degree: the Department of Health has barred dispensary advertising and marketing in any media, and the US Supreme Court declined to hear the challenge to it in Cocroft v. Graham. Read as a rule that is a wall; read as a buying spec it tells you where your money can go before you waste a quarter finding out, which is the map, your own site and the counter itself. That is precisely the work we sell here, and it is the whole of our contract rather than a line on it. See the guide: dispensary advertising rules by state.

Your profile is the shop window

With nothing to buy, your Google Business Profile is the closest thing this state gives you to a window a stranger can look through before she chooses. Three pins show; the rest is a scroll almost nobody makes. Categories, hours, products, photos and answered questions are what move a profile into that three, and they have to be kept rather than filled in once and forgotten. We own that upkeep for you every month, and the rank grid we report shows you which searches it moved and which still belong to somebody else. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.

The one place you may show product

Signs on your own property and the products displayed on your own website are what the state leaves you, which makes your site the only shelf you fully control, and a slow or thin one costs you the sale after it has already cost you the click. A menu-connected build puts what is actually in stock onto pages a search engine can read, so the buyer who typed a product name lands on that product rather than on a page telephoning her to come in and ask. We build that site inside the same contract that ranks it, so no one bills you twice for one job. See the guide: the dispensary website design guide.

Search is the only lane with room in it

About 175 dispensaries trade here and not one of them can outspend you on media, which makes organic search the rare channel where effort still beats budget. The order matters more than the volume: the profile and the citations first, then the pages your buyers actually type, then the links, because done out of order it wastes a year you do not get back. We run that order for you and report what each step returned, and the top three on your agreed keyword set and radius is the part we guarantee in writing. See the guide: the dispensary SEO guide.

Four invoices, and nothing to advertise with

A listing site, a menu tool, a texting platform and an agency retainer all bill you every month whether or not there was anywhere to spend a media budget, and none of the four talks to the others. In a state whose counters took $158,763,559 across the last fiscal year and split it between the doors already open, that rented stack is a slice of your till you are paying to keep four vendors in business. What each piece of it costs, from dated third-party sources, is in the guide; our plans put the site, the ranking work and the reporting on one contract with the build included. See the guide: what dispensary marketing costs.

A card renews; an impulse does not

Your buyer had to be certified before she could shop at all, so she is a repeat customer by construction, and the one you served in March is the cheapest sale you will make in April. A points or tier structure wired into your POS, kept warm through the messages she has asked you for, is the one asset a rival cannot rank away from you, because it is a relationship rather than a position on a map. We build that layer into the same contract, and your monthly report shows you what it brought back through the door. See the guide: the dispensary loyalty program guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee rankings?

A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.

Which platform are the sites built on?

Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.

What does it cost?

Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.

Mississippi bars dispensary advertising. What is left for you to sell me?

Everything that is not media, which here is everything that works. The Department of Health has barred advertising and marketing in any media, so what decides your month is the map, your Google Business Profile and your own site. We rank the first two and build the third on one contract, and the ranking work carries a written top-three local ranking guarantee scoped to an agreed keyword set, radius and window. Terms apply.

About 175 dispensaries and 67,944 patients. Is there enough here to fight over?

$158,763,559 crossed Mississippi counters in fiscal year 2026, and none of it is new demand: the buyer has to be certified before she can spend a dollar of it, so the question is never whether the market grows, it is which door it walks into. That is decided by who comes up first when she searches, and it is the one part of it you can change this quarter. We report your share of those searches to you, point by point, every month.

The towns around me opted out. Does that shrink my market?

It moves your market rather than shrinking it. 80 municipalities and 17 counties are recorded as opted out on the Department of Revenue's map dated 1 April 2024, and residents of a closed town still buy: they search for the nearest counter that is open, which can be yours. That map is old enough that we confirm the position with your county before we draw a radius or a keyword set, and the grid we guarantee against is drawn to what we confirm, never to a two-year-old map.

What makes you different from a general marketing agency?

Two things you can check before you sign anything. Your site would run on SGEN, the platform Dispenza owns, so the people hosting it are the people ranking it, on one contract instead of four separate ones. And the ranking work carries a written top-three local ranking guarantee, scoped to an agreed keyword set, radius and window, which you are welcome to put to any other agency before you choose. Terms apply.

A new dispensary just opened in my town. What do you actually do?

We measure first, so you are not guessing: Share of Local Voice across a grid of points in your radius, which shows where the new door took pins off you and where it did not. Then the work is unglamorous and quick, the profile, the pages for the products she types, the citations, the fixes on your own site, and a monthly report that names what moved. No media spend is involved, because none is on sale to you here.
