Twelve services from one cannabis marketing agency in North Dakota

Where the patient list is fixed and the doors are counted, the dispensary that gets found first and remembered longest keeps its share of it. These twelve do both jobs for yours: three to rank it, four to build it, three to keep its patient coming back, two to run the numbers, all on one contract, and the plans below show which modules each carries.

The North Dakota fight, by the numbers: eight doors, one to a region

Nobody in North Dakota is making new cannabis patients, so the registered list is the whole pool and marketing decides how much of your region's share of it walks through your door. There is no ninth license coming to blame. Three facts set the size of that fight, and each carries our move.

Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.

The eight-dispensary cap, the eight regional dispensary areas and the signage limits are the North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Medical Marijuana's own program record, read with NDCC ch. 19-24.1 and NDAC art. 33-44 on 9 September 2026; the medical program has been trading from the first dispensary opening in Fargo in February 2019. Population is the US Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 estimate; its newer Vintage 2025 estimate puts the state at 799,358. North Dakota publishes no dispensary sales figure and no per-region patient count, so neither appears here.

Eight dispensaries, and the statute stops there.

The program is capped at eight dispensaries, and the Department adds a ninth only if it judges patient access needs one; the regional slots are allocated and applications are shut in practice. So nothing widens this market for you, and nothing opens across the street to take it. Growth comes from patients in your own region who buy nothing today, and putting your pin in the three the map shows first, for an agreed keyword set and radius, is what we guarantee.

One dispensary per region, and the region is your market.

The Department drew eight dispensary regions, each a 50-mile radius around Fargo, Bismarck/Mandan, Grand Forks, Minot, Williston, Dickinson, Jamestown or Devils Lake, with a single dispensary in each. Your catchment was handed to you, so the one thing you can still lose inside it is the patient who goes looking, finds a thin profile and does nothing. We work the circle rather than the state: your keyword set, your Google Business Profile and a rank grid reported point by point.

A sign that may not name what you sell.

Signage here may not carry marijuana imagery, slang or strain names, and neither may your logo; you may show your name, contact details, hours, the usable marijuana you offer and your prices, and anything further needs the Department's approval. Every branding lever a looser state allows is gone, so the choice moves to surfaces you still own: the search result, the profile, your site and your list. Those are the ones we build and run for you.

Why a dispensary marketing agency should own the stack

Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.

North Dakota's eight dispensaries each sit alone inside a licensing region drawn as a 50-mile radius around Fargo, Bismarck/Mandan, Grand Forks, Minot, Williston, Dickinson, Jamestown or Devils Lake, so the patients inside your circle are the whole of your market and renting four disconnected vendors to reach them is the expensive way to buy that job.

You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.

Your stack is rented from four vendors.

A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.

Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.

The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.

Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.

A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.

Four invoices, four account managers.

Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.

What is included

Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.

Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.

The number we manage to

New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.

Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.

Local search rank grid, before and after: red rank 20 plus pins on the left, green rank 1 pins on the right.

Scoping the program to your North Dakota region

The twelve services we run are the same in every market; what changes for you here is the scope, and in North Dakota the scope is your region rather than the state. Your keyword set, your radius, your pin count and the shape of your monthly report are written to the circle your patients travel from, and the top-three guarantee is written to that same scope.

There is no delivery block for North Dakota, because the program record we write these from carries no delivery fact to write one honestly. If you deliver, bring that to the demo call and the service-area grid is scoped to it there.

If you hold one of the eight regions.

One dispensary, one region, and nobody legally able to open beside you, which sounds like the end of the marketing question and is really the start of it. With no rival pin to lose to, what you lose you lose to silence: the patient who never registers, the one who goes looking and finds the wrong hours, the one who came once and has heard nothing since. So the work we do here is not share-taking, it is coverage. A complete Google Business Profile, pages built around what your patients actually type, citations that agree with each other, and a rank grid across your region reported point by point every month. The guarantee sits on that grid, top three for an agreed keyword set and radius, and the retention layer of email, SMS and loyalty keeps the patient you already paid to find. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.

If you hold more than one of them.

Two regional licenses give you two maps, not one bigger one: a patient inside the Fargo circle never sees the Minot pin, because the local pack is drawn around the person searching and not around your company. We mirror that shape rather than flatten it, with one SGEN domain and a location selector, one page and one Google Business Profile per dispensary, one citation set per address, and a roll-up report carrying a row per region. A region that is holding and a region that is quietly slipping are then never averaged into the same line, which matters more here than in a state with rivals to benchmark against, because your own numbers are the only comparison you have. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.

The guides, read for a North Dakota region with one door in it

Eight licensed dispensaries and a signage rule that keeps your own product off your own sign change what you should be paying for, and these six guides answer it, each hung on one North Dakota fact and each ending in what it costs you and what we do about it. The guarantee stays what it is throughout: top three, written to an agreed keyword set and radius.

When the sign cannot speak, the profile is the storefront

North Dakota will not let you put marijuana imagery, slang or a strain name on your own sign, so the first thing most patients ever see of you is not the building, it is the Google Business Profile that answers the search. That listing carries the hours, the photographs, the questions and the posts your signage is not allowed to carry, and it is the one surface where a complete answer beats a large budget. Getting it complete, accurate and posted to every month sits inside both of our plans, and it is where we start with you. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.

Ranking inside a circle you were handed

Your region was drawn for you: one dispensary inside a 50-mile radius, and no rival pin arriving to change it. What that does not settle is whether the patient looking from the far edge of your circle finds you, a directory page about you, or a forum thread from four years ago. The three local-pack positions are still decided on profile completeness, on-page work and citations, and they cost the same to hold whether the patient list grows or shrinks. Dispensary SEO is how we take that position for you, and the order it is done in is fixed, because out of order wastes your year. See the guide: the dispensary SEO guide.

The signage rule, read as a buying spec

Your name, your contact details, your hours, the usable marijuana you offer and your prices: that is the whole of what your sign and your logo may say here, and everything beyond it goes to the Department for sign-off. Read as a restriction, that is a wall. Read as a buying spec, it tells you where the money should have gone before you spend it finding out the expensive way. It goes to the surfaces carrying no such limit, which are the map, your own site and the list you own, and those three are what we run for you on one contract. See the guide: dispensary advertising rules by state.

No rival to take from, so the patient you keep is the growth

Where nobody else may open in your region, growth has to come from the same people twice: the patient who bought once and came back, and the one who let a card lapse and renewed it. That is retention, and the arithmetic here is unusually blunt, because North Dakota has no adult-use program, so every buyer you will ever have is a registered patient drawn from a state of 796,568 residents, and that edge does not move. A points or tier structure wired into your POS, with the email and SMS that keep it warm, is the asset no rule can take off you. That layer is what separates our two plans. See the guide: the dispensary loyalty program guide.

The site has to do the job the sign is not allowed to do

Everything the rule strips off your signage, the product photography, the strain names, the personality, is legal on your own site and in your own menu, where the patient has already asked to see it. That makes your website the only place you get to look like a brand rather than an address, and it makes a slow, stale or menu-disconnected one costly in a way it would not be in a looser state. We build yours on SGEN, which we own, so the team hosting your site is the team running your campaign, and the build sits inside the contract rather than beside it. See the guide: the dispensary website design guide.

Four invoices against a patient list that will not grow to meet them

Count what you rent: a marketplace listing, a menu tool, a texting platform and an agency retainer, four bills that arrive whether your quarter was good or poor, none of them talking to the others. In a market the rules have capped, that rent is the one number you cannot outgrow, because there is no ninth door coming and no new tier of patients to spread it across. What each rented piece actually costs, from dated third-party sources, is set out for you in the guide. Both of our plans fold the site, the ranking work and the reporting into one contract, with the web build included and no separate build fee. See the guide: what dispensary marketing costs.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee rankings?

A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.

Which platform are the sites built on?

Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.

What does it cost?

Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.

North Dakota gives me a region to myself. Why pay for marketing at all?

Because a protected region is not a full one. Nobody may open beside you, but nothing makes the patient register, find your hours, or come back after one visit, and every one of those you miss is revenue no competitor took from you and no competitor can be blamed for. We work the two places that decision is made: the local pack and search results your patients start from, and the email, SMS and loyalty that bring them back. In a fixed pool, the store you build is the only variable left.

Which North Dakota markets do you work?

All eight of them, because the state is drawn as eight dispensary regions and each holds one licensed dispensary: Fargo, Bismarck/Mandan, Grand Forks, Minot, Williston, Dickinson, Jamestown and Devils Lake. Fargo is where the program opened, with the state's first dispensary trading there from February 2019, and Bismarck/Mandan is the only one of the eight regions drawn around two civic identities rather than one. Whichever one you hold, the work is scoped to your circle rather than to the state line, and the rank grid is drawn to the ground your patients actually cover.

Our sign cannot show product. What can an agency actually do with that?

Move the brand to where it is allowed to exist. Your signage and your logo are held to your name, contact details, hours, the usable marijuana you offer and your prices, and anything more goes to the Department for approval. Your own website, your menu and the list you own carry no such limit, so that is where we build the thing your sign is not permitted to be, on SGEN, which we own and host. It is also why your Google Business Profile is doing more work here than it does anywhere else.

Eight dispensaries statewide. Is a specialist agency overkill for a market this small?

The size of the state does not change the size of your job, and a small market punishes a bad month harder, because you have no second location and no seasonal rival collapse to carry you. You get the same twelve services on the same one contract as a store in a market of hundreds, scoped down to your region instead of billed up for it. We would rather show you that on a demo call than argue it here.

What does the top-three guarantee actually cover here?

A written top-three local ranking guarantee, scoped in the agreement to a keyword set, a radius and a window we agree with you before you sign, and reported against a rank grid drawn over your own region rather than the state. It is a ranking commitment and nothing else; we do not promise you a sales number, and any agency that does is selling you something it cannot control. Terms apply, and we walk you through them on the demo call.

Book a demo

Book straight into the calendar. Bring your store count and your address; you leave the call with a quote scoped to your locations and the guarantee terms to read before you sign.

More markets

The same program, market by market

Every market page is written to its own store count and its own map, and the guarantee is written to yours.

Where the doors are, by dispensary locations: Bismarck 1, Devils Lake 1, Dickinson 1, Fargo 1, Grand Forks 1, Jamestown 1, Minot 1, Williston 1. Every number here is counted from North Dakota Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Medical Marijuana - Dispensary Locations in North Dakota, read 2026-09-10. If your city is on that list, the fight for its map is already running.
