In a market where the door count rises and the buyer count does not, the store that gets found first and remembered longest keeps its share. These twelve do both jobs for yours: three to rank it, four to build it, three to keep its shopper coming back, two to run the numbers, all on one contract, and the plans below say which modules each of them carries.

Nobody in Illinois is creating a new cannabis buyer for you: the door count climbs, the population does not, and every order you win is one a rival lost. Here is that fight in figures, and our move on each.
Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.
License figures are the combined adult-use dispensary license list published by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation, updated 31 July 2026; the county counts are address-level reads of that same list, each address assigned a county by the US Census geocoder rather than by its city name. Population is the US Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 estimate. All were read on 9 September 2026. No sales figure appears anywhere here, because none could be verified for Illinois against a state source, and no economic development region is named for any city or county, for the same reason.
The queue keeps opening doors, and you cannot join it.
The state's combined license list, updated 31 July 2026, counts 288 active adult-use dispensing organization licenses for 12,710,158 residents, and new applications were paused on 1 July 2025 so the conditional winners could open. So the doors dividing your buyers multiply while the buyers do not, and your growth comes off a rival's till. She taps whoever the map shows her first, and putting your pin in that three, for an agreed keyword set and radius, is what we guarantee.
No single statewide cap. No statewide map either.
Licenses here are allotted by economic development region, not by one statewide ceiling, and your city or county can still refuse to zone a dispensary. So a shopper in Chicago never sees a Springfield pin: the pack is drawn around her, not around the state line. What we sell you is the position inside your radius, with your keyword set, your rank grid and your monthly report all scoped to the trade area your orders actually come from.
Where those licenses sit, and why it changes your number.
On that same list DuPage County holds 21 doors, Lake County 20 and Will County seven, each counted address by address rather than summed from city names — which is how an earlier read of an older list put DuPage at five. So your competition is not the statewide total, it is the doors holding pins inside your own radius. We draw that grid with you on the demo call, then scope the work, the keyword set and the guarantee to it.
Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.
Illinois counted 288 active adult-use dispensing organization licenses in July 2026 against 12,710,158 residents, and it stopped taking new applications in July 2025 so the conditional winners already chosen could get open, which means the number of doors dividing those shoppers keeps rising while the number of shoppers does not, and paying four separate vendors to fight over them is the expensive way to fight.
You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.
Your stack is rented from four vendors.
A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.
Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.
The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.
Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.
A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.
Four invoices, four account managers.
Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.
Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.
Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.
New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.
Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.
The twelve services above are the same in every market; what changes for you is the scope, and in Illinois the scope is never the state. Your keyword set, your radius, your pin count and the shape of your monthly report are written to the trade area your orders come from, and our top-three guarantee is written to that same scope.
There is no delivery block here for Illinois. If your license lets you move product to a customer, bring its conditions to the demo call and we scope the service-area grid to what you may actually serve, rather than to a statewide figure.
If you run one store.
Your municipality or county decides whether a dispensary may open near you at all, and writes the buffers and zoning that follow, with Chicago's the most elaborate in Illinois, so we scope the work to the map your door actually sits on: its own keyword set, its own Google Business Profile, its own citation set, and a rank grid across the radius your orders come from, with Share of Local Voice for "Dispensary Near Me" reported point by point every month. In a market that keeps adding doors to a pool of buyers that is not growing, holding your position while the field fills up is a share gain you can see, and we build your report to say so rather than bury it in one flat monthly line. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.
If you run several.
Every location you hold carries its own license and its own local approval, and the map splits the same way: your Chicago store and your Springfield store are never in the same pack. We mirror that shape with one SGEN domain and a location switcher, one page and one Google Business Profile per location, one citation set per address, and a roll-up report with a row per location, so a location that is holding share and one that is quietly losing it never average into the same line. The guarantee is written the same way, per location, per keyword set, per radius, never one number for the group. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.
Your budget question in Illinois is not whether to spend, it is what to spend on while the door count climbs and the buyer count does not. Six guides answer it, each built on one Illinois figure and each ending on your till and our move. Each guide is linked if you want the method before you talk to us.
The one position that does not get dearer as the doors multiply
Every conditional license that converts adds a rival to your map without adding a single buyer to Illinois, and that pushes the price of buying attention up for everyone still bidding for it. The three local-pack positions do not price that way. They are won on profile completeness, on-page work and citations, and none of those gets dearer because another door opened in your city, which makes the position itself the asset worth owning. Our dispensary SEO and profile work is how we take one of them for you, and the guarantee is written to the keyword set and radius we agree with you before any of it starts. See the guide: the dispensary SEO guide.
The shopper on the state line is searching from where she stands
Illinois shares a line with five states, and the license list puts at least two doors in South Beloit on the Wisconsin side and two more in Sauget facing Missouri. Towns that size do not fill two dispensaries out of their own residents, so a good share of that demand is on the far side of the line when it searches, and it searches the way everyone searches: a phone, a map, three pins. Whichever profile is complete, current and categorised properly takes the tap. Keeping yours that way every month is our work, not a setup you do once and then forget about. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.
Read the placement rules as a buying spec and they save you money
Illinois draws a 1,000-foot exclusion around schools, playgrounds, parks, libraries, child-care sites and more, keeps you off transit and public property, and rules out giveaways and contests. Read as a wall, it is discouraging; read as a buying spec, it tells you which inventory to stop paying for before you learn it the expensive way. It also tells you where the money should go instead: the map, your own site, and the email and SMS list you own, none of which carries a placement restriction, and all of which we run for you on one contract with the top-three guarantee scoped to the keyword set and radius in your agreement. See the guide: dispensary advertising rules by state.
When the doors multiply, the shopper you already have is the asset
Every new door in your city is a fresh chance for a shopper who already knows you to try somebody else, and no amount of ranking work stops her walking in somewhere new once. What stops her staying there is a reason to come back to you: points or tiers wired into your POS, an email that lands when she is due, a text she asked for. That is the one asset a rival cannot outrank away from you, because it is a relationship rather than a position, and it is the layer that separates our two plans. See the guide: the dispensary loyalty program guide.
Four invoices, and not one of them shrinks when a rival opens
A marketplace listing, a menu tool, a texting platform and an agency retainer each bill you the same in the month a new dispensary opens near you as in the month before it. Four vendors, four renewals, and not one of them talks to the others, so the flat cost of renting your stack climbs as a share of a till it is not defending. What each rented piece actually costs, from dated third-party sources, is in the guide. Both of our plans put the site, the ranking work and the monthly report on one contract, with the web build included and no separate build fee. See the guide: what dispensary marketing costs.
Spending for share, when the market will not carry you
Growth spending assumes the market lifts everyone. Illinois will not: 12,710,158 residents on the Census Bureau's 2024 estimate, and it is the license queue that is growing, not them. So the plan that fits is unglamorous. Local search first, the menu second, retention third, and one report every month that says what ran and what it returned. Both of our plans put those three on one contract with a strategist attached, and the report is ours to write for you, so you are never guessing which of the three is doing the work. See the guide: the dispensary marketing guide.

Do you guarantee rankings?
A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.
Which platform are the sites built on?
Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.
What does it cost?
Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.
Chicago already has cannabis-specialist agencies. Why Dispenza?
Because the offer is different, not the vertical. Every site we build runs on SGEN, which we own, so the team hosting your site is the team running your campaign, on one contract instead of four vendors who never speak to each other. And the ranking work carries a written top-three local ranking guarantee, scoped to an agreed keyword set, radius and window, which you are welcome to ask anyone else to match before you decide. Terms apply.
Illinois paused new license applications. Does that make marketing less urgent?
The opposite. Applications were paused on 1 July 2025 so the conditional licensees already awarded could get open, and 110 of those conditional licenses were handed out across two lotteries before the pause, so doors near you keep arriving from a queue that was settled without you. Your buyer pool does not grow to meet them. Every month you spend not holding a map position is a month a newly opened rival spends taking one, and we would rather start that work before they open than after.
How many dispensaries am I actually up against in Illinois?
Fewer than the headline. The state list carried 288 active adult-use dispensary licenses in July 2026, but a shopper in Naperville never sees a Metropolis pin: the local pack is drawn around the person holding the phone, so the fight that decides your month is the handful of doors inside your own radius. We count those with you on the demo call by drawing the rank grid for your trade area, and everything we promise is scoped to that grid, not to the state.
Our shoppers cross a state line to reach us. Does local search still do anything?
It does more, not less. The search happens where your shopper is standing, on her own phone, and the map she gets back is drawn around her, so what wins her is a complete, current profile and a site that answers what she typed, in the moments before she picks a door. That is exactly what the local work buys you. What it will not do is push your message into a place where you may not advertise, so the work we sell you sits on the surfaces you own: the map, your site and your list.
What would you measure in the first ninety days?
Share of Local Voice for "Dispensary Near Me" across a grid of points inside your radius, reported point by point rather than as a single rank, with calls, direction requests and order starts from your site beside it. The keyword set, the radius and the window all go into the agreement, and on that agreed set the offer is top three in the local pack, guaranteed. Terms apply, and we walk you through them on the demo call before anything is signed.
Book straight into the calendar. Bring your store count and your address; you leave the call with a quote scoped to your locations and the guarantee terms to read before you sign.
More markets
Other Illinois markets first, then the rest. Every market page is written to its own store count and its own map, and the guarantee is written to yours.
Where the doors are, by licensed dispensaries (distinct premises addresses holding an Active Adult Use Dispensing Organization license; the regulator's list marks which of these also serve medical patients): Chicago 40, Springfield 7, Peoria 5, Champaign 4, Normal 4, Schaumburg 4, Arlington Heights 3, Aurora 3, Carbondale 3, East Dubuque 3, East Peoria 3, Forest Park 3, Fox Lake 3, Hoffman Estates 3, Joliet 3, Metropolis 3, Naperville 3, Quincy 3, Rockford 3, Villa Park 3, Addison 2, Alton 2, Antioch 2, Belleville 2 and 143 more. Every number here is counted from Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR), Division of Cannabis Regulation - Combined License List, section "Active Adult Use Dispensing Organization Licenses", read 2026-09-10. If your city is on that list, the fight for its map is already running.
