The twelve services of a cannabis marketing agency working every zone in Rhode Island

In a market whose license count is set by rule rather than by demand, the store that gets found first and remembered longest keeps its share. These twelve do both jobs for yours: three to rank it, four to build the site and the brand, three to keep its shopper coming back, two to run the numbers. One contract, and the plans below show which modules each carries.

The Rhode Island fight, by the numbers: a capped list, three pins

Nobody in Rhode Island is making new cannabis buyers, and the retail list was capped rather than left to grow, so every dollar you add is a dollar a rival lost. Here is the size of that fight, and our move on each figure.

Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.

The retail license figures are the Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission's own regulations, 560-RICR-10-10-1, read through the Rhode Island Secretary of State's rules portal on 9 September 2026, because the Commission's own site refused automated access that day; the population is the US Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 estimate, read the same day. No storefront count and no sales total appear here, because neither could be verified against the Commission on that date. No county figure appears either: Rhode Island has no functioning county government, so the municipality and the Commission's licensing zone are the only market boundaries used on this side of the state line.

24 licenses, four to a zone, and none added on demand.

The Commission authorized 24 new retail licenses across three retail classes, four available in each zone, so the field you compete against is fixed by rule, not by demand. What moves between you is which three pins a shopper sees when she searches, and if yours is not one of the three the tap goes to whoever is. Putting your pin in that three, for a keyword set and radius we agree in writing, is what we guarantee.

1,112,308 residents. Your buyer already has a favorite.

Rhode Island's population is 1,112,308, and compassion centers were serving patients here before adult-use retail existed, so the shopper you want has bought from somebody else for years. She leaves that habit for two reasons: she searched and yours came up first, or yours gave her a reason to return. We work both ends for you, the profile and pages that win the search, and the loyalty, email and SMS that bring her back.

Your town's voters, not its council, decide whether a market exists.

The Commission will not license a retailer in any town whose voters declined cannabis establishments by referendum, so your municipality is the boundary that decides your sales. The pack is drawn around whoever is searching, so the shopper across your town line sees a different three pins. Which pin she taps inside your radius is what we sell you: your keyword set, your rank grid and a monthly Share of Local Voice report scoped to the trade area you draw from, with the guarantee written to that grid rather than the state line.

Why a dispensary marketing agency should own the stack

Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.

Rhode Island's retail list was capped at 24 licenses split three ways, twelve standard, six social equity and six workers' cooperative, four to a zone, while a town whose voters declined by referendum hosts none at all, so the doors that do exist are dividing 1,112,308 residents across a map far narrower than the state's size suggests, and renting your site, your menu, your messaging and your ranking work from four vendors who never speak to each other is the expensive way to fight for that share.

You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.

Your stack is rented from four vendors.

A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.

Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.

The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.

Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.

A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.

Four invoices, four account managers.

Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.

What is included

Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.

Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.

The number we manage to

New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.

Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.

Scoping the program to your Rhode Island town, not to the state

The twelve services above are the same in every market; what changes for you here is the scope, and in Rhode Island the scope is never the state. Your keyword set, your radius, your pin count and the shape of your monthly report are written to the town and the zone you actually trade in, and the top-three guarantee is written to that same scope.

There is no delivery block here, because the retail classes the Commission publishes are standard, social equity and workers' cooperative, and none of the three is a delivery license. If your license covers delivery, bring it to the demo call and we scope a service-area grid to it there rather than to a statewide figure.

If you run one store.

Your market is your own town and the zone around it, and because the list is capped there is a countable number of doors inside your radius rather than a field that grows every quarter. So we scope the work to the map your store actually sits on: its own keyword set, its own Google Business Profile, its own citation set, and a rank grid across the radius your buyers come from, with Share of Local Voice for "Dispensary Near Me" reported to you point by point every month. You see which streets you hold and which a rival is quietly taking, and the top-three guarantee is written to that grid and its keyword set. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.

If you run several.

Four retail licenses to a zone, and a town whose voters said no hosts nothing at all, so two doors you own are rarely in the same fight: different towns, different zones, different packs, and no county layer in between to average them out. The program we run mirrors that shape, one SGEN domain with a store selector, one page and one Google Business Profile per location, one citation set per address, and a roll-up report with a row per door, so the location holding its share and the one quietly losing it are never read as a single line. Your scope is written per pin: its own keyword set, its own radius, its own window in the agreement. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.

The guides, read for a Rhode Island store on a capped list

A retail list that grows only when the Commission opens a window, and a town veto that can keep retail out of a town altogether, change what your marketing budget is actually buying. So these six guides are written to that, each hung on one Rhode Island fact, each ending in what it costs you and what we do about it. The offer under all of them does not move: top three in the local pack, guaranteed on a keyword set and radius we put in writing. The guide itself is linked if you want the method before the call.

On a capped list, rank is the only thing that moves

When the size of the field is set by rule, share only changes when a shopper changes where she goes, and rank is the mechanism of that change. Your position is never one number either: first at your own counter, fourth across town, invisible past that. So we measure Share of Local Voice across a grid of points inside your radius instead of quoting you a single rank, and your monthly report shows where you hold and where a rival is taking ground. The top-three guarantee is written to that grid and the keyword set inside it. See the guide: the dispensary SEO guide.

A small state that the map still splits town by town

Rhode Island is small enough that owners assume one profile covers everybody, and the map does not work that way: the three pins a shopper is shown are drawn around wherever she happens to be, so your real contest is your own municipality and the towns your buyers come from. Every pin in that contest is won on the dull work, categories, hours, photos, products, questions answered and posts kept recent, and the pin that has all of it beats the pin that was set up once and left. Google Business Profile management sits inside both our plans and is worked for you every month. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.

Compassion centers got to your shopper first

Patients were being served here before adult-use retail opened, so the buyer you want has shopped legally for years and already has a favorite. She is not won by being loud; she is won by being remembered, and by being found the one time she looks elsewhere. Across 1,112,308 residents that is a fixed pool rather than a growing one, so every regular you keep is one a rival does not get. A points or tier structure wired into your POS, kept warm by the email and SMS she opted into, is the one asset nobody can rank away from you. That retention layer is what separates our two plans. See the guide: the dispensary loyalty program guide.

The 85% threshold is a buying spec, not a warning

An advertisement may run here only where at least 85% of the audience is 21 or over, and your website has to be gated to that age as well. Read as a rule that is a restriction; read as a buying spec it tells you which inventory you can buy before you spend money finding out the expensive way. It also tells you where the money goes instead: to the map, to your own site and to the list you own, none of which carries an audience threshold. All three sit inside our plans, on one contract. See the guide: dispensary advertising rules by state.

Two of your three shopfronts belong to somebody else

A marketplace listing puts you beside every other door in your zone in the same format, undercut on price by whoever is running a deal that week, and the shopper who finds you there is that marketplace's customer, rented back to you monthly. Your site is the one you own outright, and here it also has to hold an age gate, carry what the rules require of what it advertises, and still load fast enough that she finishes the order. A menu-connected site on your own domain is included in both our plans, with no separate build fee. See the guide: the dispensary website design guide.

Four invoices, one share of a small state

A marketplace listing, a menu tool, a texting platform and an agency retainer each bill you every month whether your share grew or shrank, and none of the four talks to the others. With the list capped, there is no larger market arriving to absorb that cost, so the flat price of renting your stack is a bigger slice of your till every year it stays. What each rented piece actually costs, from dated third-party sources, is in the guide; both our plans put the site, the ranking work, the messaging and the report on one contract, with the web build included. See the guide: what dispensary marketing costs.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee rankings?

A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.

Which platform are the sites built on?

Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.

What does it cost?

Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.

Rhode Island only authorized 24 new retail licenses. Is a market this small worth an agency?

A small field is the best condition marketing ever gets, because nothing dilutes the work. Nobody opens a new door here without the Commission opening a license window first, and a town whose voters declined hosts none at all, so share moves only when a shopper picks a different door, and which door she picks is decided by the three pins she is shown. Hold your position while a rival neglects theirs and you take sales off them. We report that to you point by point across your own grid every month, and the top-three guarantee is written to that grid and its keyword set.

If the towns around us voted the trade down, does that help us or hurt us?

It changes your scope rather than the work. The Commission will not license a retailer where the voters declined, so buyers in those towns shop somewhere that was allowed to open, and your trade area can reach across a town line your shopper never thinks about. We draw the rank grid around where your buyers actually come from rather than around your postcode, agree the keyword set and radius for it in writing, and report Share of Local Voice across that grid to you every month.

There is no county government here. What is the right scope for a local program?

Your municipality and the zone you trade in, and nothing wider. Rhode Island has no functioning county layer, so a statewide program would be scoping your money to a line no shopper searches inside, while the pack is drawn around the person searching. That makes your own town and the towns your buyers come from the market you are actually in, and it is what your keyword set, your radius and your monthly report are built to. It is also the scope your guarantee is written to.

We hold a hybrid license carried over from the medical side. Does that change the work?

The scope changes; the method does not. Patients and adult-use shoppers search differently, one arriving with a product name and the other typing "dispensary near me", so your pages, your menu categories and your profile have to answer both, and your email and SMS lists are not one list. Both audiences come out of the same fixed population, which is why we treat them as two doors into one till and report each of them to you separately every month.

How soon would we see anything, and what tells us it is working?

The profile moves first: categories, products, hours and photos corrected in the opening weeks, which is when the map starts reading your store differently. After that your monthly report shows Share of Local Voice across the grid we drew for your radius, point by point rather than as a single rank, with calls, direction requests and order starts from your site beside it. The keyword set, the radius and the window sit in the agreement, and on that agreed set the offer is top three in the local pack, guaranteed. Terms apply.

More markets

The same program, market by market

Every market page is written to its own store count and its own map, and the guarantee is written to yours.

Where the doors are, by licensed compassion centers (the regulator's own page title and column noun; every one of the 9 rows reads "Yes" in the retail half of the register's "Hybrid Grow/ Retail License" column, i.e. each is also licensed for adult-use retail): Warwick 2, Central Falls 1, Exeter 1, Foster 1, Pawtucket 1, Portsmouth 1, Providence 1, Woonsocket 1. Every number here is counted from Rhode Island Cannabis Control Commission (CCC), Cannabis Office - Licensed Compassion Centers register, read 2026-09-10. If your city is on that list, the fight for its map is already running.
