When the street is allowed to show ten square feet of sign, the storefront cannot do the selling; the search result has to. These twelve do that job for your store: three to rank it, four to build it, three to keep its patient coming back, two to run the numbers, all on one contract, and the plans below show which modules each carries.

No retailer in Washington DC makes new patients; the only licensed channel is the medical program, so every buyer is already on the register and buying somewhere. Which door she walks into is the part you can move, and here is the size of that fight, with our move on each figure.
Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.
The retailer count and the ward distribution are the District of Columbia Alcoholic Beverage and Cannabis Administration's own figures, from its statement of more than 70 physical and online licensed retailers and its medical cannabis retailer directory, read on 9 September 2026; the holding cap is D.C. Code section 7-1671.06; population is the US Census Bureau's Vintage 2024 estimate. Neither source carries a District sales figure, so none appears here.
More than 70 licensed retailers, one register of patients.
ABCA counts more than 70 physical and online licensed retailers, three of them internet retailers, serving the District's 702,250 residents. None can recruit a patient who is not already on the register, so your growth is another retailer's loss, decided the moment she searches and taps one of the three pins the map shows first. Putting your pin in that three, for an agreed keyword set and radius, is what we guarantee.
Ward 2 holds 21 of them. Wards 7 and 8 hold three.
ABCA's directory runs by ward, and the spread is lopsided: Ward 2 lists 21 retailers, Wards 7 and 8 three between them. In Ward 1 you are one pin among sixteen contesting three map positions; in the thinnest wards you are one of three doors, and pins from across the ward line fill the pack. We draw your rank grid around the trade area your patients come from, not the ward, and report Share of Local Voice across it point by point.
No licensee may hold more than three retail licenses.
D.C. Code caps at three the retailer and internet retailer licenses one licensee may hold, so no rival puts more than three pins on the map against yours, and the pack is decided by the work: a complete Google Business Profile, a menu-connected page on your own domain, citations that match, worked every month. Those are ours to run for you on one contract, and the top-three guarantee is written to your keyword set and radius.
Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.
Washington DC allows each of its more than 70 licensed retailers ten square feet of exterior cannabis signage beyond the trade name, so the patient choosing between them chooses on a screen rather than on the street, and renting four vendors to fight for that screen is the expensive way to fight.
You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.
Your stack is rented from four vendors.
A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.
Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.
The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.
Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.
A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.
Four invoices, four account managers.
Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.
Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.
Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.
New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.
Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.
The twelve services above are the same in every market; what changes for your store is the scope, and in the District that scope is your trade area, not the ward line. Your keyword set, your radius, your pin count and the shape of your monthly report are written to that trade area, and the top-three guarantee is written to the same scope.
If you run one store.
One licensed retailer in Ward 2 is contesting three map positions against twenty others; one in Ward 7 is contesting them against every pin that reaches over the ward line. The work is the same in both and the scope is not, so we draw your rank grid around the streets your patients actually come from, agree the keyword set for that grid, and write both into the agreement with the window, which is what your top-three guarantee is held to. Share of Local Voice for "Dispensary Near Me" is reported across the grid every month, point by point, so you see which side of your ward you are winning and which a rival is quietly taking. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.
If you run two or three.
Three is the most retail licenses one licensee may hold here, so if you run more than one store in the District you are never a chain of five; you are two or three pins in two or three wards, each inside its own pack. The program mirrors that: one SGEN domain with a store selector, one page and one Google Business Profile per store, one citation set per address, and a roll-up report with a row per store, so your Ward 1 store holding share and your Ward 6 store losing it are never averaged into one line. Scope is agreed per location, per keyword set, per radius, never as one number for the group. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.
If you sell online or deliver.
The District licenses internet retailers and couriers as classes of their own, and ABCA's directory lists three internet retailers beside the storefronts, so an order that never passes a counter is a licensed channel here, and a measurable one. A patient who finds you on a marketplace is that marketplace's customer, and you rent her back every month; the menu-connected site on your own domain is where the order stays. For this shape we report visibility across your service-area grid rather than rank on one pin, with order starts from your own site beside it in the same report. See marketing for cannabis delivery dispensaries.
The ward is the operative unit of District cannabis licensing, and your fight is decided a few streets wide, which changes what you should be paying for. These six guides answer it: each hangs on one Washington DC fact, each ends in what it costs you and what we do about it. The offer does not move from guide to guide: top three in the local pack, guaranteed, written to your agreed keyword set and radius. The guide itself is linked if you want the method before the call.
Twenty-one pins in Ward 2, three positions, no chain to hide behind
Ward 2 lists 21 licensed retailers on ABCA's directory, and the cap of three retail licenses per licensee means none of them can be the fifth pin of a chain. So the pack there is decided by the profile itself: primary category set right, services and hours complete, photos current, every review answered, and a listing that matches your site and citations to the letter. That is unglamorous work done every month, and a neglected profile in a twenty-one-pin ward is the opening you take a position through. Google Business Profile management is in both of our plans, worked monthly, and the position we take through that opening is the one your guarantee is written to, for your keyword set and radius. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.
Ten square feet of sign is the whole storefront the rules allow
Under 22-C DCMR Chapter 58 your exterior cannabis signage is capped at ten square feet in aggregate beyond the trade name, window signs sit on the inside of the glass and cover no more than a quarter of it, and nothing cannabis goes on the door. Read as a rule, that is a restriction; read as a buying spec, it tells you where the patient is actually choosing, which is on her phone before she has seen a single shopfront. Every dollar the street cannot take goes to the map, your own site and the list you own, and those three are what we run for you under one contract, with the rules themselves kept in the guide. See the guide: dispensary advertising rules by state.
Rank is not one number in a city of eight wards
ABCA lists its retailers ward by ward and may cap their number the same way, but the local pack is drawn around the patient, not the ward, so your position for "Dispensary Near Me" can be first outside your door, fourth a few streets over and absent across the ward line, where a pin from the next ward holds the spot. A single reported rank hides all of that, and hides which half of your trade area you are losing. We measure Share of Local Voice across a grid of points in your radius instead, so a gain towards Ward 1 is not quietly cancelled by a loss towards Ward 3, and that grid is the currency your monthly report is written in. See the guide: the dispensary SEO guide.
A registered patient is a buyer you keep or a buyer you lose
Every legal sale in the District goes to a registered patient through a licensed retailer, and no advertisement mints a new one; the pool is the people already on the register, and each of them already has a place she buys from. So the second half of your growth is not finding her, it is keeping her once she has switched: a points or tier structure wired into your POS, with the email and SMS that keep it warm, is the one asset the pins in Ward 2 cannot rank away from you, because it is a relationship rather than a position. That retention layer is what separates our two plans, and it is the half of the fight a rival cannot see you winning. See the guide: the dispensary loyalty program guide.
Four invoices against a market with no public scoreboard
ABCA gives you a retailer count and the Census a population, but neither carries a sales line to tell you whether a flat till is the market or your share. What you can read is the invoices. A marketplace listing, a menu tool, a texting platform and an agency retainer bill you every month whatever the retailers around you are doing, none of the four talks to the others, and together they are the dearest way to buy a fight with no scoreboard. What each rented piece costs, from dated third-party sources, is in the guide; both of our plans put the site, the ranking work and the reporting on one contract, with no separate build fee, and the report is your scoreboard. See the guide: what dispensary marketing costs.
The window can show a quarter; the site can show everything
Interior window signs may cover no more than a quarter of your glass and exterior doors carry none, so to a patient on the pavement your store is a name and a door. Your site is the window the rules do not ration: the live menu, the hours, her question answered before she asks it. On a marketplace she reads all of it beside every other licensed retailer in the District, undercut by whoever is cheapest this week, and she becomes the marketplace's customer, rented back to you monthly. A menu-connected site on your own domain, updated by your own staff, is where the order stays; the build is included in both plans, and it is the page your map pins send the tap to. See the guide: the dispensary website design guide.

Do you guarantee rankings?
A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.
Which platform are the sites built on?
Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.
What does it cost?
Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.
Washington DC is medical-only. Does a program built for recreational markets even apply?
The program is built for a fixed pool of buyers, and a medical-only market is the purest case of one. Every legal sale here goes to a registered patient through one of ABCA's more than 70 licensed retailers, so nobody is creating demand; the whole contest is which of those retailers she walks into, and that is settled on the map and on your own site. The keyword set is written to the phrases a District patient actually types, agreed with you, and the top-three guarantee is scoped to that set and your radius. Terms apply.
Is a Washington DC campaign the same as a ward campaign?
No, and the difference costs money. ABCA lists its retailers ward by ward and may cap their number the same way, so the ward is the operative unit of the District's cannabis licensing, but the local pack is drawn around the patient who is searching, and she does not see the ward line. A campaign scoped to your ward hands whichever side of your trade area crosses that line to a rival working it. We draw the rank grid around where your patients actually come from, and the guarantee is written to that grid, not to a ward or to the District.
How many stores are we actually up against?
Fewer than the headline, and it depends where you stand. ABCA's directory lists 21 retailers in Ward 2, sixteen in Ward 1, eleven in Ward 6, eight in Ward 4, five each in Wards 3 and 5, two in Ward 8 and one in Ward 7, and no licensee may hold more than three retail licenses, so no one rival fields more than three pins. The fight that matters to you is the pins inside your own radius, and we count those on the demo call by drawing the rank grid for your trade area.
We have one store east of the center. Is top three realistic against the wards with twenty pins?
You are not competing against Ward 2's pins; you are competing against whatever reaches the patients around you, and in Wards 7 and 8 the directory lists three retailers between them. A thin pack cuts both ways: a complete profile, a menu-connected page on your own domain and citations that match it take a position quickly, and a rival from the next ward doing the same work takes it from you just as quickly. Bring the address to the demo and we scope the radius and the keyword set for that store before anything is signed.
What goes into the monthly report for a District store?
Share of Local Voice for "Dispensary Near Me" across a grid of points in your radius, reported point by point rather than as one rank, so a ward line running through your trade area shows up as a pattern rather than vanishing into an average; beside it, calls, direction requests and order starts from your own site. The keyword set, the radius and the window go into the agreement, and the offer on that agreed set is top three in the local pack, guaranteed. Terms apply, and we walk you through them on the demo call before you sign.
Book straight into the calendar. Bring your store count and your address; you leave the call with a quote scoped to your locations and the guarantee terms to read before you sign.
