Twelve services from one cannabis marketing agency in Kentucky

In a market where half the licenses have yet to open a door, the store that gets found first and remembered longest keeps its share of a fixed patient list. These twelve do both jobs for yours: three to rank it, four to build it, three to keep its shopper coming back, two to run the numbers, all on one contract, and the plans below show which modules each carries.

The Kentucky fight, by the numbers: one patient list, 24 open doors

No dispensary in Kentucky creates a patient; the state's card list does, and it is a registered, finite list your store shares with every other open door. So every card that walks into a rival is one you lost, and the doors are set to double. Here is that fight, and our move on each figure.

Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.

The dispensary count, the 48-license cap and the eleven-region structure are the program record of the Office of Medical Cannabis, Cabinet for Health and Family Services together with trade-press reporting of its late-August 2026 figures; the 24,332 active cardholders is the program’s 14 August 2026 count. All were read on 9 September 2026. No county or city dispensary count appears here, because none could be verified against a published Kentucky record, and the opt-out tallies and the November 2024 ballot result are cited from secondary reporting because the official opt-out page did not answer on that date.

24 doors trading, 48 licenses awarded.

Kentucky awarded 48 dispensary licenses by lottery and 24 were open by late August, so the card list is split two dozen ways today and twice that once the rest trade. Every new door hunts the shoppers you already serve, and the ones that arrive ranking take them fastest. Putting your pin in the three the map shows first, for an agreed keyword set and radius, is what we guarantee.

A patient list that doubled in a year.

The state counted 24,332 active cardholders in mid-August, up 109.9% on the year, which reads like growth until you notice it is a list every open door sells to at once. A card that renews is a shopper somebody keeps, not one anybody creates. So we work both ends for you: the profile, pages and citations that win her when she searches, and the loyalty, email and SMS that make yours the one she never leaves.

Eleven regions on the state's map. None of them is yours.

Kentucky was carved into eleven regions with four dispensaries apiece, six in the two holding Louisville and Lexington, but a shopper's phone has never heard of a region: the pack she sees is drawn around her. Your fight is the doors inside your own radius, not the two dozen statewide. That is the scope we sell you, your keyword set, your rank grid and a monthly report written to the trade area you draw from, with the guarantee scoped to that grid, not to the state line.

Why a dispensary marketing agency should own the stack

Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.

Kentucky's first dispensaries opened in January 2026, by late summer only half the licenses the state authorized were trading, and the operators serving a registered patient list of 24,332 cardholders are all working the same short list of shoppers, so the day the rest of those doors open is the day that list gets split twice as many ways.

You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.

Your stack is rented from four vendors.

A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.

Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.

The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.

Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.

A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.

Four invoices, four account managers.

Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.

What is included

Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.

Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.

The number we manage to

New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.

Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.

Scoping the program to your Kentucky dispensary

The twelve services above are the same in every market; what changes for you is the scope, and in Kentucky the scope is never the state. Your keyword set, your radius, your pin count and the shape of your monthly report are written to the trade area your store actually draws from, and the top-three guarantee is written to that same scope.

There is no delivery block here because nothing in the Kentucky program record read for this market sizes home delivery; if your license covers it, bring that to the demo call and we scope the service-area grid to it there rather than to a statewide count.

If you run one store.

Kentucky's regions were drawn by the state, not by your shoppers: four dispensaries in most of them, six in the two holding Louisville and Lexington, and a patient in any of them types the same three words everybody else types. So we scope the work to the map your store actually sits on, its own keyword set, its own Google Business Profile, its own citation set, and a rank grid across the radius your patients come from, with Share of Local Voice for "Dispensary Near Me" reported point by point every month. In a state where the doors are set to double, holding your pin while new ones open is share you can see on a report rather than guess at. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.

If you run several.

No two of your Kentucky locations sit in the same pack. The eleven regions each carry their own handful of dispensaries, every county and city decides for itself whether cannabis businesses trade there at all, and a shopper in one town never sees a pin in the next. The program mirrors that shape: one SGEN domain with a store selector, one page and one Google Business Profile per location, one citation set per address, and a roll-up report with a row per location, so a site holding its share and one quietly losing it are never averaged into a single line. We write the guarantee the same way, per location, per keyword set, per radius. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.

The guides, read for a Kentucky store facing twice the doors

Half of Kentucky’s dispensary licenses are still to open, which changes what you should be paying for this year. Here are six things that changes for you, and what we do about each one, under a top-three guarantee written to your keyword set and radius. Where you want the method in full before the call, the guide behind each one is linked.

The pack is drawn around her phone, not around the state's regions

Kentucky's eleven regions were drawn to spread dispensaries across the state; the local pack is drawn around whoever is holding the phone, and the two have nothing to do with each other. Three pins get shown. If yours is not one of them, the tap goes to a rival who did the profile work, categories, hours, products, photos, questions answered, posts that do not go stale. None of that is clever and none of it is dear; it is simply done or not done, and on a profile opened this year it is the fastest asset you own to move. We do it for you and report the grid point by point. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.

The position costs the same whether the field is 24 doors or 48

When the number of doors doubles, buying a customer gets dearer, because more operators are bidding for the attention of the same registered list. The three local-pack positions do not price that way. They are won on profile completeness, on-page work and citations, and they cost you the same to hold whether 24 dispensaries are trading or all 48, which makes the position itself the asset worth owning before the rest open. Dispensary SEO and the profile work are how we take it for you, and the order of operations behind them is fixed, so doing it out of order wastes your year. See the guide: the dispensary SEO guide.

24,332 cards, and every one of them buys somewhere

Kentucky's patient list more than doubled in a year, to 24,332 active cards, and each of those people will buy again; the only open question is where. A shopper you have already served is the cheapest sale in your business and the one a rival cannot rank away from you, because it is a relationship rather than a map position. A points or tier structure wired into your point of sale, with the email and SMS that keep it warm, is what turns a first visit into a habit. That retention layer is what separates our two plans, and we will show you both on the call. See the guide: the dispensary loyalty program guide.

Every site and social account you run goes on a list the Cabinet keeps

Kentucky asks a cannabis business to hand the Cabinet a list of every informational website and social account it maintains, links included, and to keep the Cabinet unblocked on all of them. Read as a rule that is paperwork; read as a buying spec it tells you which properties are worth owning, since anything you run has to be declared anyway. That argues for fewer, better-owned surfaces, your own site, your own profile, your own list, and against renting a scatter of accounts nobody is accountable for. We keep that inventory current as part of the contract and put it in your monthly report. See the guide: cannabis marketing compliance.

Your town already voted for this. Very little marketing acts like it

In November 2024 medical cannabis went on the ballot in more than a hundred Kentucky cities and counties and carried in every single one. That is a town saying out loud that it wants the store, which makes the cheap tactics the ones worth running: profile posts, a page built around what your neighbors actually type, a win-back email to a lapsed list, the community date already on the calendar. None of them needs a bigger budget; all of them need someone to do them every month. That is what the dedicated campaign strategist inside our plans is for, and the report shows you what each one returned. See the guide: dispensary marketing ideas.

Four invoices, and a field that is about to double

A marketplace listing, a menu tool, a texting platform and an agency retainer each bill you the same whether your share of the patient list is rising or falling, and none of the four talks to the others. When the number of open doors here doubles, that rented stack does not get cheaper; your share of the till gets thinner while the invoices hold. What each rented piece actually costs, from dated third-party sources, is in the guide; both of our plans put the site, the ranking work and the reporting on one contract, with the web build included and no separate build fee. See the guide: what dispensary marketing costs.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee rankings?

A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.

Which platform are the sites built on?

Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.

What does it cost?

Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.

Every license here came out of the same lottery. Doesn’t that make us all even?

It made the doors even. It did nothing to the map. Kentucky drew eleven regions and handed its dispensary licenses out by lottery, so no rival out-planned you for a spot and you out-planned none of them — and none of that decides which three pins a patient sees when she searches. That part is won on your Google Business Profile, your pages and your citations, and it is the part we take over: your keyword set, your radius, a rank grid across the trade area you actually draw from, and a monthly report on it, with the top-three guarantee written to that same scope. Terms apply.

Kentucky's dispensaries only opened this year. Is it early to spend on marketing?

It is the opposite. The card list already stands at 24,332 and every one of those people is deciding now which door is theirs, while a ranking position takes months to build and moments to lose. Starting while half the licenses are still shut means you hold the map before the field fills; starting later means paying to displace whoever got there first. We would rather build your profile, your site and your grid now and report the movement to you every month.

How many dispensaries am I actually up against?

Fewer than the state total, and the total is not the fight. Kentucky had 24 dispensaries trading in late August out of 48 licensed, and no per-city count could be verified, so the markets we work here are named by where the first doors opened: Louisville and Lexington, the two regions given six apiece rather than four, and smaller places such as Frankfort and Nicholasville. No shopper sees a statewide list; the pack is drawn around her. We count the doors in your radius on the demo call by drawing the rank grid for your trade area, and the guarantee is scoped to that grid, not to the state.

My county voted for this. Does local politics change the marketing?

It changes the map, not the method. Kentucky opts every county and city in by default and a local government has to legislate to prohibit; 21 counties and close to four dozen of the state's 419 cities are reported to have done so, and in November 2024 the question went to more than a hundred jurisdictions and carried in all of them. So the default around you is open unless your own county or city legislated otherwise, and the demand is on the record. What decides who serves it is which store the pack shows when a patient searches, and that is the part we sell you, scoped to your radius and written into the agreement.

What would you measure in the first ninety days?

A Share of Local Voice read for "Dispensary Near Me" and your top product terms, taken across a grid of points inside your radius and reported point by point rather than as a single rank, alongside calls, direction requests and menu order starts from your site. In a market this young the early work is mostly profile and citation hygiene plus the pages your patients actually search for. The keyword set, the radius and the window are written into the agreement, and on that agreed set the offer is top three in the local pack, guaranteed. Terms apply, and we go through them on the demo call.
