The fight for a Los Angeles County shopper, in figures

Nobody in this county is making new cannabis buyers; marketing only decides which store an existing one walks into, and every buyer who picks somebody else's door is a sale that left your till. Here is the size of that fight, and our move on each figure.

Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.

Storefront, delivery and microbusiness counts are from the California Department of Cannabis Control's public license search, data refreshed 8 September 2026, filtered to active licenses at premises inside the county: 357 active storefront retailer licenses sit at 348 distinct premise addresses, nine addresses each holding a paired adult-use and medicinal license. The delivery and microbusiness figures stay license counts because the register publishes no premise address for a non-storefront retailer. The register also files Los Angeles neighborhoods as separate premise cities, so no City of Los Angeles storefront total is stated; 154 is the license count filed under that one name. Which cities allow storefront retail is read from the same regulator's local-ordinance table. No regulator publishes a per-county sales figure, so none is stated; the tax and arrears figures are the City of Los Angeles Department of Cannabis Regulation's own, from its 2025 Annual Report posted 22 July 2026.

348 doors, 357 licenses, 80 delivery, 69 microbusiness licenses.

Nine addresses here hold an adult-use and a medicinal license side by side, so the register's 357 active storefront licenses are 348 actual doors — California's largest county retail market, with Riverside next at 116 licenses, San Diego 82, San Francisco 70, Sacramento 52 and Orange 45. All chase the same fixed pool of buyers you do, and each search shows three; when yours is missing, the tap goes to a rival. Putting your pin in that three, for an agreed keyword set and radius, is what we guarantee in writing.

Where those licenses sit.

The state register files Los Angeles neighborhoods under their own names and counts licenses, not doors: 154 under "Los Angeles", 32 in Long Beach, 14 in North Hollywood, ten in West Hollywood, seven each in Woodland Hills, Reseda and San Pedro. So your rivals are packed into your neighborhood, not spread across a county, and the shopper picks three off one map. We build your profile, your page and your citations to the place your door opens onto, because that is your real contest.

A market defending, not growing.

City of Los Angeles cannabis gross receipts tax collections peaked at $123,453,887 in 2021 and have fallen since, and the city's regulator estimates more than 500 of its licensees owe $400 million in back taxes. A field spending its attention on arrears is not spending it on winning your customers, and as the pot shrinks the three stores holding the map take a bigger slice. Our monthly report shows you which streets you hold and which you are losing.

Why a dispensary marketing agency should own the stack

Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.

Only 20 of the 88 cities inside this county line allow a storefront at all, so the stores that exist are packed into a handful of clusters, and inside a cluster a store renting its listing, its menu, its texting and its retainer from four vendors that never speak to each other is paying four times to lose one map position.

You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.

Your stack is rented from four vendors.

A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.

Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.

The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.

Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.

A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.

Four invoices, four account managers.

Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.

What is included

Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.

Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.

The number we manage to

New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.

Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.

How the program is scoped to Los Angeles County

The twelve services above are the same in every market. What changes for your store is the scope: the place name the work is written to, the pin count, what the report measures, and the keyword set, radius and window your top-three guarantee is written to.

If you run one store.

The register files 154 storefront licenses under "Los Angeles" and files North Hollywood, Woodland Hills, Reseda, San Pedro, Van Nuys and Sylmar as places of their own; your shopper searches the way she lives, by neighborhood. So we write your keyword set, landing page and Google Business Profile to the place your store actually sits, draw the rank grid around its own radius, not a boundary no buyer can see, and report Share of Local Voice across that grid monthly, so you see which streets you are winning. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.

If you run several.

A chain here spans cities that each set their own competitive field; a Long Beach store is not fighting a North Hollywood store's three pins. You get one SGEN domain with a store selector, a page and a Google Business Profile per store, a citation set per address and a roll-up report with a row per store, so your second and fourth stores show up instead of averaging into the flagship, and our top-three guarantee is written per location, to each store's keyword set and radius. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.

If you deliver.

Eighty delivery-only retail licenses share this county with its 348 storefronts, and a delivery footprint has no pin to rank. So we measure your visibility across the service-area grid, zip by zip, with order starts from your menu-connected site beside it, because a gain in one zip must not hide a loss in the next, and an order that starts on a marketplace is that marketplace's customer, not yours. See marketing for cannabis delivery dispensaries.

The guides, applied to your Los Angeles County store

Six things this county does to your store, what each one costs you at the till, and what we do about it under a top-three guarantee written to your keyword set and radius. Each links the guide that goes deeper, if you want the method before the call.

Your pack is your neighborhood's, never the county's

There is no county-wide map result and never will be: a shopper in Reseda gets the Reseda three, a shopper in Long Beach gets the Long Beach three. The register's own city rows tell you how crowded your contest is, 32 storefront licenses in Long Beach, 14 in North Hollywood, seven in Woodland Hills, and every one of them is only as strong as the work behind it. Google Business Profile management is in both plans: primary category set right, service list complete, hours current, every review answered, worked monthly, so your pin is one the neighborhood's three cannot leave out, which is the grid your guarantee is scoped to. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.

One county, 89 local authorities, one site architecture

A page written to "Los Angeles" is competing with the 154 storefront licenses filed under that name and wins you nothing in Lynwood or San Pedro. There are 89 separate local authorities inside this county line and the state register treats their cities as separate places, so your site needs a page per store, written to the place that store is in, with the county sitting above them rather than instead of them. That is one architecture decision, made once, and the one most often got wrong; we make it in the build, on your own SGEN domain, before the first keyword is chased. See the guide: the cannabis SEO guide.

The rule here bites where the ad sits, not where you do

On top of the state's rules, the City of Los Angeles bars cannabis advertising in any publicly visible spot within 700 feet of a school, a public park, a public library, a recovery or treatment facility, a day care center or permanent supportive housing, and the rule attaches to the placement rather than to your premises, so a fully compliant store can still buy a placement that is not. That closes most of the street, and what is left is the map: your shopper opens it, types, and taps one of three pins. Dispensary SEO and the Google Business Profile work are what put your pin in that three, which is why both plans lead with them. See the guide: the cannabis marketing compliance guide.

When the field is defending, the list you own is the cheap channel

More than 500 of the city's licensees are estimated to owe $400 million in back taxes, which is a fair guide to where a good deal of the field's attention is going this year: arrears, not your customers. An email list you already own costs a fraction of what a new customer costs to win, and it is the one channel here a better-capitalized rival cannot outbid you for. The work is deliverability and segmentation rather than creative, and OUTREACH Email is the Enterprise module we run for it, wired to your menu-connected site so every send lands on a page that takes the order. See the guide: the dispensary email marketing playbook.

Eighty delivery licenses, and the second order is a text message

Eighty delivery-only retail licenses share this county with the storefronts, and a delivery customer has no pin to walk back past; the second order happens because you asked for it. Text does that better than any other channel, and worse than any other channel when the consent is wrong, which is why the carrier rules, the quiet hours and the opt-in flow matter more than the copy does. OUTREACH SMS is the Enterprise module that runs it, tied to your menu-connected site, so a text lands on a page that takes the order rather than on a blocked number. See the guide: cannabis-friendly SMS platforms.

A license you cannot move makes the site the asset you can

Retail applications are not being accepted in the City of Los Angeles, retail is capped per Community Plan Area, and the unincorporated county has never opened at all, so for most operators here the store you have is the store you get. Growth is a geography question before it is a marketing question, and the geography is closed. What is still entirely yours to change is what happens after the tap: the pages, the menu integration and the load time on your own domain, where the order stays with you instead of with a marketplace. Both plans include that build, with no separate build fee, and it is where every one of your pins sends the tap. See the guide: the dispensary website design guide.

Frequently asked questions

Do you guarantee rankings?

A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.

Which platform are the sites built on?

Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.

What does it cost?

Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.

Where is Dispenza based, and does it matter for a Los Angeles County store?

Our home office is in Las Vegas, and we keep offices in other markets as well. Every client in the country is served by the same team. The work that moves a Los Angeles County pin is done on your Google Business Profile, your citations, your site and your monthly report, none of which needs anyone standing in your store; what it needs is your address, your radius and your keyword set, which is what we scope with you on the demo call.

My store is in Long Beach, not "Los Angeles". Does the campaign change?

Yes, and it should. The state register records 32 storefront licenses in Long Beach and 14 in North Hollywood under their own names, separately from the licenses filed under Los Angeles. We write your keyword set, your landing page and your profile to the place your store actually is, draw the rank grid around its radius, and write the top-three guarantee to that grid; a campaign scoped to "Los Angeles" would be measuring a map your customers never see.

We hold a delivery-only license. What does the program measure?

Visibility across your service area rather than rank on a storefront pin: a grid of points across the zips you deliver to, reported monthly, with order starts from your menu-connected site beside it. Eighty delivery-only retail licenses are active in this county, and the guarantee terms for a delivery footprint are written to that service-area grid and its window, which we scope with you on the demo call.

Legal cannabis sales in California are falling. Why spend more on marketing?

Because a falling category is a share problem, not a demand problem. The city's tax collections and arrears are in the figures above, and what they tell you is how much of the field is defending rather than competing for your customers. Nobody is going to create a new buyer in this county; the stores holding the top three map positions take a bigger slice of a smaller pot, and that slice is available to you now in a way it was not when the category was carrying everyone. We measure the slice you take in Share of Local Voice, street by street, every month.

How long does it take to reach the top three?

We give you a window, not a promise. It depends on your profile's history, your radius and who is inside it, and the window is written into your agreement, the same one the top-three guarantee is written to; we scope it to your store on the demo call, before anything is signed.
