Single-location dispensaries · multi-location dispensaries and MSOs · delivery dispensaries.
Nobody in San Diego County is making new cannabis buyers. Every shopper already buys somewhere, so each one who taps a rival's pin is a sale that left your till. Here is the size of that fight, and our move on each part of it.
Above, four clients’ day zero against the month, in Share of Local Voice: the share of the local pack a store holds for "Dispensary Near Me" across its trade area.
Storefront, delivery-only and microbusiness counts, the license designations and the city-by-city distribution are from the California Department of Cannabis Control's public license search, read against an on-disk copy refreshed 8 September 2026 and re-pulled in full from the live register, current to 9 September 2026, filtered to active licenses at premises inside the county; both returned the same figures. That register files a premise city as a mailing address rather than as a governing jurisdiction, so every retail premises was put through the US Census Bureau geocoder to recover the city that actually governs it. Populations are US Census Bureau Vintage 2024 estimates, and the residents-per-storefront ratios are arithmetic on those two sources rather than published figures. No regulator publishes a San Diego County cannabis sales or tax-revenue total, so none is given. The storefront cap, the equity reservation and the setback reported for the county's newly adopted program are not yet on a County page or in ordinance text, so none of those numbers is printed either. Advertising rules are California Business and Professions Code sections 26151 and 26152.
82 licenses, 81 doors, no delivery lane.
82 active storefront retailer licenses sit at 81 distinct addresses in this county, and not one active delivery-only license exists here; four were ever issued and all four are surrendered. Every door is chasing the same fixed pool of buyers you are, each search shows three of them first, and when yours is not among them the tap goes to a rival. Putting your pin in that three, for an agreed keyword set and radius, is what we guarantee in writing.
Where those licenses sit.
The spread looks nothing like the population. La Mesa, population 60,767, holds fifteen; Vista eleven; Chula Vista seven; Lemon Grove, Encinitas and National City four each; Santee three; Imperial Beach one; the unincorporated area two; and the City of San Diego, population 1,404,452, holds thirty-one — one for every 45,305 residents against La Mesa's one for every 4,051. Your rivals are not spread over a county but stacked around your door, and your shopper picks three of you off one map. We write your pages, profile and citations to the place that door opens onto.
Six cities with nowhere to walk in.
Oceanside, Escondido, Carlsbad, El Cajon, San Marcos and Poway hold 682,709 residents and no licensed storefront between them, and seven cities here prohibit commercial cannabis outright. Those shoppers still buy; they cross a line to whoever holds the nearest pin. California's advertising statute closes the billboards on the interstates and border highways this county is built around, so the map and the list you own are the whole contest — and our monthly report shows which streets you are taking.
Most dispensaries rent their marketing from four vendors and hope the pieces talk to each other. They rarely do.
La Mesa carries one licensed storefront for every 4,051 residents and the City of San Diego one for every 45,305, so the crowding your store actually feels has nothing to do with the size of the county, and paying four separate vendors for a listing, a menu, a texting tool and a retainer that never reconcile is how a store in the tight half of that spread loses the only three positions on offer.
You know the rules you sell under better than any agency does, so this page does not restate them. If you want the references, both are in the library: dispensary advertising rules by state and cannabis marketing compliance.
Your stack is rented from four vendors.
A marketplace listing, a menu vendor, a loyalty or SMS tool and a generic retainer, each with its own login. Fix: one platform (SGEN) and one agency, with the site, the menu and the campaigns in one place.
Local SEO is an upsell tier elsewhere.
The work that puts you in the local pack for "Dispensary Near Me" is often gated behind the top plan. Fix: ranking work is included from the first dollar. Localized on-page SEO, 100+ off-page profiles and Google Business Profile management are in both plans.
Menu traffic leaks to marketplaces.
A shopper who finds your store on a third-party listing is that listing’s customer. Fix: menu-connected SGEN sites keep the order on your domain, with staff updating the menu themselves.
Four invoices, four account managers.
Nobody owns the result. Fix: one point of contact, one monthly report showing what ran, what it cost and what it returned.
Web design and development are included — no separate build fee.
Local SEO, menu-connected websites, email, SMS and loyalty under one contract.
New Frontier Data (2026-06-21) put one operator’s cost per new customer at about $23. So we manage the channel that costs the least per visit: the local pack.
Our currency is Share of Local Voice (SoLV) for "Dispensary Near Me" — the share of local-pack visibility your store holds for that search across its trade area, reported with its window and case page.
The twelve services we run are the same in every market. What changes here is the scope: which of the county's governments your store sits under, how tight your own cluster is, what the report measures, and the keyword set, radius and window your top-three guarantee is written to.
If you run one store.
Your contest is your own cluster, never the county. Fifteen storefront licenses in La Mesa and eleven in Vista are fighting inside cities of 60,767 and 99,322 people, while thirty-one are spread across a city of 1,404,452. So we write your keyword set, your landing page and your Google Business Profile to the place your door actually opens onto, draw the rank grid around your own radius rather than a county line no shopper can see, and report Share of Local Voice across that grid every month, so you can see which streets you are taking and which are slipping. See marketing for the single-location dispensary.
If you run several.
A chain here spans governments that each set their own field: your Vista shop and your Chula Vista shop are not fighting the same three pins, and the designation on each of their licenses decides which searches that shop can even serve. You get one SGEN domain with a store selector, a page and a Google Business Profile per shop, a citation set per address and a roll-up report with a row per shop, so your third and fourth doors show up instead of averaging into the flagship — and the top-three guarantee is written per location, to each shop's keyword set and radius. See marketing for multi-location dispensaries and MSOs.
If you deliver.
Delivery is not a business anyone builds in this county: no delivery-only license is active anywhere in it, four have ever existed and all four were surrendered. La Mesa and Vista, which hold 26 of the county's storefronts between them, prohibit delivery outright, while Oceanside permits delivery and holds no licensed storefront. A delivery footprint has no pin to rank, so we measure your visibility across the service-area grid, zip by zip, with order starts from your menu-connected site beside it, because a gain in one zip must not hide a loss in the next. See marketing for cannabis delivery dispensaries.
Six ways San Diego County shapes what your store can win, what each one costs you at the till, and what we do about it under a top-three guarantee written to your keyword set and radius. Each links the guide that goes deeper, if you want the method before the call.
Your pack is your cluster's, never the county's
La Mesa holds fifteen licensed storefronts among 60,767 residents, one for every 4,051, while the City of San Diego runs one for every 45,305. So how hard your three pins are to hold is set by which line your door sits behind, not by the size of the county, and no shopper here is ever shown a countywide result. Both plans carry Google Business Profile management, worked every month rather than set once: the primary category, the service list, the hours, and a reply under every review. That is what keeps you inside the three your own cluster returns, and that cluster grid is what your guarantee is scoped to. See the guide: Google Business Profile for dispensaries.
One county, nineteen governments, one site architecture
The County of San Diego and the City of San Diego are separate governments with separate cannabis rules, and there are nineteen jurisdictions inside this county line, ten of which allow a storefront. Aim a page at "San Diego" and you are competing with the thirty-one storefront licenses inside the city line, not in La Mesa, Vista or Santee. So your site needs a page per shop, written to the place that shop actually sits, with the county sitting over them rather than instead of them. That is one architecture decision, taken once and rarely revisited; we take it during the build, on your own SGEN domain, so every search that finds you lands on a page able to rank for it. See the guide: the cannabis SEO guide.
The statute closes the loudest channel in the county
California bars a cannabis billboard on any interstate highway and on any state highway that crosses the border, and this county carries the state's busiest border crossings, on I-5 and I-805. It also requires that at least 71.6% of an advertisement's audience be reasonably expected to be twenty-one or over, which quietly disqualifies most of the cheap inventory you would otherwise buy. With the loudest channel closed by statute, the contest comes down to a map your shopper opens, types into, and taps once. Both plans lead with dispensary SEO and Google Business Profile work because those are the two things that decide whether the tap is yours. See the guide: the cannabis marketing compliance guide.
The shopper who crossed a city line is the one to keep
Six cities here — Oceanside, Escondido, Carlsbad, El Cajon, San Marcos and Poway — hold 682,709 residents and no licensed storefront between them, so a real share of your traffic passed nothing at all to reach you. Winning that shopper the first time is expensive; the second time is not, and it is the one thing a better-capitalized rival cannot outbid you for. Loyalty marketing is the module we run for it, tied to your menu-connected site so a point balance and an offer land on a page that takes the order rather than in an inbox nobody opens. See the guide: the dispensary loyalty program guide.
The permit is fixed by a city; the site is fixed by you
Vista sets its ceiling by formula — one dispensary per ten thousand residents, currently eleven — and eleven are licensed. Encinitas handed out its four permits in one lottery in October 2022 against more than two hundred applicants, and has run none since. So a second door here waits on a city council rather than on anything you can do this quarter. Everything after the tap is still yours: the pages, the menu integration and the load time on your own SGEN domain, where the order stays with you instead of with a marketplace, and every pin you hold sends its tap there. Both plans include that build. See the guide: the dispensary website design guide.
Two designations, two different searches
Only five of this county's storefront licenses are adult-use only and exactly one is medicinal only; the other seventy-six carry both designations, and four of the five adult-use-only shops sit in Chula Vista. Which of those you hold decides which searches you can actually serve, because a patient hunting for a medical dispensary and a shopper hunting for a dispensary are two different queries with two different intents. We build the keyword set, the landing pages and the on-site copy to the searches your license lets you take, and we report the rank you hold on each of them every month. See the guide: the dispensary SEO guide.

Do you guarantee rankings?
A written top-3 local ranking guarantee — Dispenza’s own offer; the keywords, radius and time window are set in your agreement (see terms). Terms apply. Ask for the guarantee terms on your demo call before you sign anything. The guarantee covers the local keyword set agreed for your trade area, over a defined window.
Which platform are the sites built on?
Built on SGEN — the platform every one of Dispenza’s 500+ dispensary sites runs on. SGEN is Dispenza’s in-house website platform, so the team that hosts your site is the team running your campaigns. Menu-connected sites are built to be updated by staff.
What does it cost?
Pricing is scoped to your locations and both plans above list every module in full, with the site build included and no separate build fee. A quote for your store count takes one demo call. See how pricing works.
Where is Dispenza based, and does that matter for a San Diego County store?
Our home office is in Las Vegas and we keep offices in other markets as well; every client in the country is served by the same team. Nothing that moves a San Diego County pin needs anyone standing in your shop — it needs your address, your radius and your keyword set, which is what we scope with you on the demo call.
My shop is in La Mesa, not the City of San Diego. Does the campaign change?
Yes, and it should. Fifteen active storefront licenses sit at La Mesa premises and eleven at Vista premises, separately from the thirty-one inside the City of San Diego, and the County of San Diego is a different government again whose cannabis rules reach only its unincorporated area. We write your keyword set, your landing page and your profile to the place your shop actually is, draw the rank grid around its radius, and write the top-three guarantee to that grid.
We hold an adult-use-only license. Does that change the work?
It changes the searches you can serve. Only five of the county's storefront licenses are adult-use only and one is medicinal only, with four of those five in Chula Vista; the other seventy-six carry both designations. Someone hunting for a medical dispensary and someone hunting for a dispensary are two different searches with two different intents, so we build the keyword set, the landing pages and the profile to the ones your license actually lets you take.
The county just rewrote its own cannabis law. Should we wait for it?
The Board of Supervisors voted three to two on 2 September 2026 to complete adoption of the Socially Equitable Cannabis Program for the unincorporated area, which holds 506,066 residents and two legacy storefronts today. The cap, the equity reservation and the timing are still not published on a County page, so we do not plan a campaign against them. What we plan against is the map you are on now and the pins you can take this quarter, under a guarantee scoped to your keyword set, your radius and an agreed window.
How long does it take to reach the top three?
We give you a window rather than a promise. It depends on your profile's history, how tight your cluster is and who else is in it, and the window goes into your agreement, the same one the top-three guarantee is written to. We scope it to your shop on the demo call, before anything is signed.
Book straight into the calendar. Bring your store count and your address; you leave the call with a quote scoped to your locations and the guarantee terms to read before you sign.
More markets
Other California markets first, then the rest. Every market page is written to its own store count and its own map, and the guarantee is written to yours.
